An Exceptional Offering
A wide range of Academic programs are offered within the Swiss International Boarding Schools, giving each child the possibility to learn the way they feel comfortable, and choosing the subjects that they enjoy and are good at.
The International Baccalaureate
The programs encourage both personal and academic achievement, challenging students to excel in their studies and in their personal development. The Diploma Program (DP) curriculum is made up of six subject groups and the DP core, comprising theory of knowledge (TOK), creativity, activity, service (CAS) and the extended essay. Through the Diploma Program (DP) core, students reflect on the nature of knowledge, complete independent research and undertake a project that often involves community service. American High School Diploma and Advanced Placement Program
The Advanced Placement (AP) Program offers qualified students the opportunity to take college-level courses in a high school setting. Students who participate in the program can earn college credit based on their AP exam scores. More than 90 percent of US colleges and universities give credit to AP students, and half of these institutions offer sophomore standing to students with a sufficient number of qualifying grades. AP exam scores are used as admissions criteria for many institutions outside the US.
British A’ Levels
The A Level (Advanced Level) is a subject-based qualification conferred as part of the General Certificate of Education as well as a school leaving qualification offered by the educational bodies in the United Kingdom and in certain International schools. Obtaining an A Level, or equivalent qualifications, is generally required for university entrance, with universities granting offers based on grades achieved.
A Levels are generally worked towards over two years. Normally, students take 3–4 A Levels in their first year of sixth form and most cut back to 3 in their second year. This is because university offers are normally based on 3 A Levels. Unlike other level 3 qualifications such as the International Baccalaureate, A Levels have no specific subject requirements, so students have the opportunity to combine any subjects they wish to take. However, students normally pick their courses based on the degree they wish to pursue at university: most degrees require specific A Levels for entry.
The French Baccalaureate is prized by all French universities. It demands a high level of spoken and written French and features three different versions depending on the skills and interests of your child: Economic and Social, Literary and Scientific.
The Swiss Matura secures students entry into Swiss universities. Subjects are split into two categories; the first being a mix of humanities, sciences and arts, and the second including languages, math and two optional elements.
